Extremely Disappointed, Paid $15,000 for Worse Problems Than Before. I called License to Chill for a service call on our older Carrier unit that had been stopping intermittently. They diagnosed dirty coils causing freezing and the sensor tripping, shutting the system down. The unit was old but had worked decently overall. They recommended replacing both units (even though one was still working fine), claiming the old ones were failing.
We spent $12,000 on the new Carrier system, explicitly telling them to address the root cause, whether it was plumbing, airflow, or anything else, so the problem would be truly solved. They assured us the new units would fix everything.
One year later, we’ve had SEVEN service calls. The new units are failing faster than the old one, with the same freezing and sensor-tripping issues happening more frequently. Not only did they fail to fix the underlying problem, but the situation is now worse.
They initially blamed a “plumbing issue” but pushed the full replacement anyway instead of diagnosing and repairing properly. On top of that, they made several installation errors. They insisted our existing Nest thermostat wouldn’t work and replaced it with a Honeywell that then completely failed. They blamed “bad wiring,” but we never had thermostat or wiring issues with the original Carrier setup. It appears they either damaged the wires during install or supplied a faulty thermostat.
These guys are dangerous. A few months ago the transformer failed under warranty. When we called them for service, instead of properly replacing the part, they bypassed the breaker and didn’t tell us. We only discovered this when we had an independent electrician inspect it. They had claimed the failure was due to a surge, despite our surge protection device being in place. This kind of shortcut is unsafe and unacceptable.
This experience has been incredibly frustrating, expensive, and potentially hazardous. We trusted them to solve the problem, not create bigger (and more dangerous) ones. I would not recommend License to Chill to anyone. If you’re considering them, get multiple opinions, document everything, and consider a different company.Seth Glenn, 1 star, via Google
Beware! They really should be called license to Scam. Have had the most frustrating year with this company after spending $25K on 3 properties. They replaced perfectly functioning units with new ones and assured me the units were the problem. Root cause was not the units but I wasted absurd amount on new units that continue to fail on a monthly basis. Stay away from Andrew how as caught lying. Michael starts out super nice and friendly but once things don’t go well, it’s all threats and accusations after that. Take your business elsewhere
